Here at Stathern we acknowledge the high importance of geographical knowledge and understanding and integrate this learning across the curriculum and into all of our topics and themes. We start in EYFS considering physical features around us, where we live, where our families lives and habitats – one of our favourite ways to explore the world around us is through our woodland walks, getting us up close to our world and explore the human and physical features. As we move into KS 1 we explore further afield and compare and contrast different locations and features – always drawing our knowledge back to what is familiar to us to help us. This prepares us for KS2 when we can really delve onto key features of different countries and continents, understand rivers and explore compare and contrast, even creating holiday leaflets full of information on each destination to encourage a visit.
To enrich our curriculum, we try to ensure there are hands on experiences and opportunities to explore to world around us, incorporate geography is all of the trips we complete and relate all of our topics where relevant to include geographical links.
